Although relatively isolated, at least by Dutch standards, the city is has the fast beating heart of a trendy and youthful city, in large part due to the rather large student population. The more than 20,000 university students present in the city ensure that there is vibrant nightlife in the city, which compliments well the standard day time activities that you´d expect to encounter such as a museums and parks. Though youthful and trendy, Groningen is also picture perfect as the typical Dutch city with its canals and historical buildings.
