Prinsenhof Gardens 3 Tulip Rating

The Prinsenhof Gardens are the gardens of the of the mansion of the same name, Prinsenhof. This renaissance garden dating from 1626 features a rose garden and herb garden. Through the use of hedges, the letters W and A have been created in honor of the then Stadthouder (the steward of Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe) Willem Frederik and his wife, Albertine Agnes.

If you are lucky enough to be in Groningen around the end of July, you can drop by the Prinsenhof Gardens for the Poets in the Prinsenhof Gardens (Dichters in de Prinsentuin). It is a yearly event dedicated to poetry, where both famous and not so famous poets take to the park to read their own works to the public. The exact dates each year differ, so consult their website for more information www.dichtersindeprinsentuin.nl.

The best thing about the Prinsenhof Gardens is the yearly poetry event. Aside from that, if you are in the area it is certainly worth taking an hour to slow down and relax in the park but probably not worth going out of your way to visit.
